Taieri clinched the top Men’s Tennis Division on Saturday with a 4-2 win over Eastern Harbour.
Taieri went into the match 2 points behind St Clair who had played an extra game so had a bye this round. The 4-2 win earned Taieri 8 points and the Division. The 4 singles matches were split. Carlos Reid lost another 3-set battle to Ryan Eggers at number 1, however Taieri’s number 2 Darryl Paterson and number 3 Phil Williams had comfortable victories. Connor Morrison had a close loss in the number 4 position, and has developed well in his first season of top grade tennis. It was the experience of the Taieri team that shone in the two doubles matches. Reid & Paterson took the top doubles in straight sets while Williams partnered Graeme Clarke for a straight sets win in the bottom doubles.
Results: Carlos Reid lost to Ryan Eggers 6-2, 4-6, 2-6; Darryl Paterson defeated Christian Faber 6-0, 6-0; Phil Williams defeated William Muller 6-3, 6-1; Connor Morrison lost to Danny Frigberg 6-7 (5), 2-6. Reid & Paterson deteated Eggers & Faber 6-3, 6-2; Williams & Clarke defeated Muller & Frigberg 6-2, 6-1.
The Taieri Division 2 Men’s Team finished second in their grade.
